Collecting Perspectives

For its 6th edition – which will take place at the CTM female networks event – New Emergences extends an invitation to the inventor and sound artist Marije Baalman who will join the panel alongside Mariette Groot, professional organizer and shop keeper of the only mobile store dedicated to experimental music and sound art in the Netherlands; together with Anne Wellmer, composer and performer of electronic music; and with the British musician and artist Semay Wu, who initiated the New Emergences lecture and discussion series in the spring of 2016.

The provocations we propose here are that there is not much difference between women and men’s approaches to technology, if we disregard for a moment such things as historical, social and cultural backgrounds. We will also question the common use of a specific language and imagery that perharps influences women and men towards a profession.

New Emergences is set up as a lecture and discussion series. The discussions are the most important aspect of the series, and lie at the core of these events. Everyone present in the room is invited to comment or ask questions to the panel. The moderator has the role and the right to filter and move on within the discussion if and whenever necessary.

Panel: Semay Wu, Anne Wellmer, Mariette Groot, Marije Baalman
