About the Artist
Gerda Geertens is a Dutch composer. She studied music and philosophy in Groningen, and composition at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Klaas de Vries. Philosophy and meaning in music play an important role in her work as composer. She writes music for choir, solo singers, various chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestra. She also composes electronic music as part of her video art creations. In Rotterdam, she is involved in organising The Day of the Composer (Dag van de Componist), a festival taking place around the Netherlands showcasing composers working in the country.
