About the Artist
Joan Heemskerk is known to many as part of Jodi, the artist duo considered true pioneers of net art, investigating and manipulating the Internet, computer programmes and video games already in the early 1990s. But Joan’s field of work stretches much further into both analog and digital realms.

Heemskerk recently published a new book questioning computer language and its output. It once was decided that computer language is based on a binary system (1 or 0) but what if we would think non-binary? How does that define the information going from A to B? The book is called “Alice & Bob after Clay” and was the result of her research work at CERN in Geneva and the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. It was also inspired by her research into quantum computing.
Apart from the interview we will hear sounds from Joan’s and Jodi’s online projects, many of them generated in real time on the internet.
